When someone we care about brings us a problem, our instinct is often to solve it.

Give them the answer.
Lay out the steps.
Tell them what we think they should do.

It comes from a good place.

But there’s a difference between supporting someone’s growth and taking ownership of their growth away from them.

When we immediately hand someone the answer, the unintended message can become:

“I don’t trust you to figure this out yourself.”

Great leadership—at work, at home, and in our relationships—sometimes means slowing down.

Ask the question.
Understand what they’re making the situation mean.
Help them examine their own thinking.

And give them enough space to discover an answer they can actually own.

Because the goal isn’t to make people dependent on our wisdom.

It’s to help them recognize their own. 💯
