Leadership gets a lot harder when you ask people to go somewhere you refuse to go yourself.

Leadership gets a lot harder when you ask people to go somewhere you refuse to go yourself.

Strategy matters.

Knowledge matters.

Experience matters.

But people are paying attention to something else, too:

Are you willing to live what you’re asking of them?

If you expect accountability, can you accept accountability?

If you expect difficult conversations, are you willing to have them?

If you expect growth, are you still growing?

If you expect your people to navigate discomfort, have you learned how to navigate your own?

Because some of the hardest things you’ve experienced can become part of what equips you to lead someone else through theirs.

Not because struggle automatically makes someone a great leader.

But because when you combine experience with reflection, strategy, and empathy, you can offer something more powerful than theory:

You can lead from understanding.

Don’t just point toward the mountain.

Be willing to climb.
