Ever wonder why some coaches still lack confidence despite consuming endless trainings, videos, and courses? The answer is deceptively simple yet profound – confidence isn't built through passive learning but through active application.

We dive deep into the fundamental truth that coaching confidence comes from doing, not just knowing. Real growth happens when you take action, reflect on your experience, and incorporate feedback to elevate your practice. This cycle of practice, reflection, and improvement creates the foundation for authentic coaching confidence that no course alone can provide.

Our discussion explores the critical distinction between confidence and self-confidence. While confidence comes from previous experience, self-confidence emerges when you trust yourself regardless of external validation. When you embrace the mindset that every coaching session leads to either success or valuable learning, you'll find the courage to take "messy action" despite uncertainty.

We also examine why many coaches hesitate to take action in the first place. Your brain naturally tries to protect you from discomfort, making it essential to develop mind management skills that allow you to push beyond your comfort zone. This same skill becomes invaluable when helping clients navigate their own resistance to change.

Whether you're a new coach seeking initial confidence or an experienced practitioner looking to reach new levels of mastery, this episode provides practical insights for your development journey. Remember: you don't get better by consuming – you get better by acting, reflecting, and continuously elevating your coaching practice.

00:00:00.239 --> 00:00:06.671
There are so many coaches who watch videos, do trainings, buy courses and they still don't feel confident.

00:00:06.671 --> 00:00:07.833
Why do you think that is?

00:00:07.833 --> 00:00:10.327
That's because confidence isn't just about learning.

00:00:10.327 --> 00:00:13.148
It's about taking action on the things that you do know.

00:00:13.148 --> 00:00:17.201
You only get real confidence from actually doing so.

00:00:17.201 --> 00:00:20.109
You can't get fully confident just by knowing.

00:00:20.109 --> 00:00:22.888
You become fully confident by coaching.

00:00:22.888 --> 00:00:24.782
But it's not only just by coaching.

00:00:24.782 --> 00:00:29.448
It's by reflecting, getting feedback and elevating your coaching to the next level.

00:00:29.448 --> 00:00:36.036
So practicing is key, but also getting some reflection time, feedback and taking your coaching to the next level.

00:00:36.036 --> 00:00:43.408
That's what will help you build true confidence.

00:00:43.408 --> 00:00:46.240
Remember that coaching is a skill and, just like any other skill, it builds through repetition, reflection and feedback.

00:00:46.240 --> 00:00:50.128
Which is why today's quote is you don't get better by consuming.

00:00:50.128 --> 00:00:52.152
You get better by acting.

00:00:52.539 --> 00:00:54.424
People say just take messy action.

00:00:54.424 --> 00:00:56.811
But what do you think stops people from doing that?

00:00:56.811 --> 00:00:57.360
Really?

00:00:57.360 --> 00:01:00.548
It's their brain, like learning how to manage their mind.

00:01:00.548 --> 00:01:13.391
Our brain's going to try and convince us to not take action, to not get uncomfortable, because it's there to help keep you safe, and so being able to manage your mind will help you take that uncomfortable action, because in reality, that's what we need to do to grow the confidence?

00:01:13.859 --> 00:01:15.727
How did you build confidence in the beginning?

00:01:15.727 --> 00:01:21.084
I remember when I went through my certification, my instructor talked about the difference between confidence and self-confidence.

00:01:21.084 --> 00:01:24.411
Confidence is something that you have based off of something you've done before.

00:01:24.411 --> 00:01:29.667
Like if you're trying to pour a glass of water and you've done it a million times, you're pretty confident that you're not going to spill it.

00:01:29.667 --> 00:01:36.590
But if you're talking about self-confidence, self-confidence comes when you have full confidence in yourself, despite any outside evidence.

00:01:36.590 --> 00:01:43.147
That is possible, knowing that only two outcomes could happen Either number one you'll do it right or number two you'll learn.

00:01:43.147 --> 00:01:47.653
And when you can lean into self-confidence, which is just knowing, you're gonna be able to figure it out.

00:01:47.653 --> 00:01:52.108
Whether I do it right or wrong, it's going to teach me a valuable lesson of what to keep doing or not doing.

00:01:52.108 --> 00:01:54.989
That is how you take that messy action in the beginning.

00:01:55.359 --> 00:01:58.161
So what's the difference between getting reps and winging it?

00:01:58.161 --> 00:01:59.302
Yeah, great question.

00:01:59.302 --> 00:02:11.051
So when I think about winging it, it's just going into a session having no idea where you're going and then just moving on to the next session without taking the time to get feedback, to elevate what you did, find out what you did well and what you would improve.

00:02:11.051 --> 00:02:28.915
When I talk about getting reps, it's not only repetitions, but it's slowing down afterwards, getting some feedback from other people, thinking about how we could do it better next time and implementing that into your system so you can continue to grow as a coach this time and implementing that into your system so you can continue to grow as a coach.

00:02:28.915 --> 00:02:33.580
This is something that's very key, not only through the certification I went through, but through our certification as well, and that is making sure that you have some type of way of getting feedback while you're growing.

00:02:33.942 --> 00:02:39.223
Sometimes we can do things the wrong way and if we don't take that time to reflect and get feedback, we keep doing it that way.

00:02:39.585 --> 00:02:50.286
But as long as we're in an environment that can provide us with that feedback and help us improve, that's where everybody gets to improve, because not only are you improving through your own personal actions, but the actions of the people in the group with you.

00:02:50.286 --> 00:02:57.432
So if you've gotten to this point and you're looking to be able to develop as a fully confident and self-confident coach, reach out and let's chat.

00:02:57.432 --> 00:03:01.848
And if you missed truth number five, we talked about why coaching isn't about you.

00:03:01.848 --> 00:03:07.064
It's about being fully present with your client, and once you understand that, what do you do with that?

00:03:07.064 --> 00:03:08.750
That's what we talked about today.

00:03:08.750 --> 00:03:13.848
You get in the arena, you coach and you take action and you get feedback.

00:03:13.848 --> 00:03:24.092
Now, in truth number seven, we're going to answer a question that so many coaches have asked us, and sometimes they're even a little afraid asking it, and that's do I need a certification to coach?

00:03:24.092 --> 00:03:28.284
The answer might surprise you, but it's also not black and white either.

00:03:28.284 --> 00:03:30.670
So we'll see you in truth number seven.
